Selection Process
We offer four PGY-1 positions each year. All positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The deadline for application and letters of reference is December 1st of the year prior to the starting year. Update: Applications for ERAS open Fall 2024
We offer one PGY-2 position each year and accept them on a rolling basis. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) but are typically filled outside the match. The deadline for application and letters of reference is December 1st of the year prior to the starting year. Update: Applications not filled for our PGY2 position for a July 2024 start.

For the 2024 ERAS® cycle, our program will be participating to receive information from the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants will be required to complete the MyERAS application, and participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional. In its second year of use, the supplemental ERAS application is designed to help students share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our programs’ setting and mission. There is no cost to applicants and participation is optional.

Initial invitations to access to the supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on August 1st. The supplemental ERAS application must be completed between August 1st and September 16th at 5:00pm ET.

The NRMP requires that residency programs provide applicants with the agreement that they would need to sign upon matching with the program. Please see Salary and Benefits to view the GMEC Resident Appointment Contract.
Our program receives many more qualified applications than can be interviewed. Our review is mission based and heavily weighted toward life experiences including advocacy, and experiences working with underserved and vulnerable populations. Various factors affect the decision of whether to interview a candidate, such as clinical experience and interest in psychiatry, meaningful volunteer or work history, USMLE/COMLEX scores, dean’s letters, WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) regional connection, and letters of recommendations.
We do not have a fixed exam score cutoff, but we give preference to applicants who have passed all taken exams on their first attempt.

International medical graduates should contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for their application materials and eligibility requirements. Paper applications will not be accepted. Our institution does not sponsor VISA's for residents and so we cannot unfortunately offer an interview to anyone who has this requirement.
